As part of our circular economy strategy under the MicronGreen umbrella, a major milestone was achieved at our Louth site in 2024. After months of collaboration across teams including Quality, Engineering, Purchasing, Sales, and Service, the site successfully transitioned from blue to clear plastic for our garment packaging.

This change might appear simple at first glance, but it delivers wide-reaching benefits:

  • Improved Recyclability: Clear plastic is far more widely recyclable, helping our customers to dispose of packaging more easily and responsibly.
  • Enhanced Quality: The new packaging has already led to measurable quality improvements, including a reduction in packaging-related issues.
  • Cost and Operational Benefits: Beyond environmental gains, this switch has also supported improved operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness, contributing to Micronclean’s overall sustainability strategy.

Tom Brough, Associate Operations Director, noted:

“Changing from blue to clear plastic is great for the environment and our customers, as it has also improved our quality.”

This initiative also supports our wider MicronGreen goals and commitment to a circular economy. By making our plastic packaging more recyclable, we’re not just reducing environmental impact, we’re empowering our customers to do the same.

The success of this transition didn’t go unnoticed. One of our largest customers presented Micronclean with an award for environmental leadership, recognising the impact and values that drove this change.

This project is a great example of what we can achieve when we work together across departments, aligning our operational goals with our environmental values.
