In this behind the scenes update Shauna Leigh, Micronclean's Learning and Development Assistant, gives an insight into our latest work experience placements:

Here at Micronclean, we have just finished another round of successful Work Experience placements! Throughout the summer, students from schools across East Lindsey have been joining us here for a week to gain experience within a working environment, build up their skills within their chosen department, and connect with staff to begin to integrate themselves into the working world. It provides them with key real-world experiences and a basic understanding of expectations within the workplace, also giving an opportunity to see the kind of work that takes place, ask questions about that and anything they are interested in, and provide direction and advice from real people within an industry they'd like to explore further!

Hosting Work Experience placements helps Micronclean just as much as it does the students, it gives us opportunity to really get our name out there to people who may not know who we are, what services we provide, work opportunities available, etc. I would ask the same questions to each student - "So what do you think we do" which is a question that's difficult to answer for most. The answer was usually the same - a slight shrug and a "uhhh not sure" - which allowed me to spend the next 15 minutes drawing pictures on a whiteboard to explain! Once that was done, they were let loose to their departments. While only with us for a week, we hope they will carry their experiences with them into their career. Join us below to hear a bit about those experiences!

Taygan Webb – Year 10 Student at Louth Academy

Taygan joined our Finance department, where he spent a lot of time on PowerPoint! During the week he spent time with each member of the team, learning the ins and outs of their roles. He then went on to create PowerPoint presentations for each role, detailing the processes for their day-to-day tasks. Once he had created the handy little cheat sheets, Taygan created process flows (showing the order of the tasks) for the duties. Feeling ambitious after learning about all the separate roles, he had a favourite as he had this to say about what comes next for him:

"Before I wasn’t too sure what Account Management is but now, I have an idea of what I’m heading for."

Theo Epton – Year 10 Student at Skegness Grammar School

Theo joined our Process Engineering team, during his time he showed interest in all elements of engineering but took a particular interest in how our Cleanrooms operate once he saw them (they are very impressive!). Theo let us know that the week had really helped him in his career planning, sharing the below:

"Before I was uncertain about doing an apprenticeship but after this, I would like to do an apprenticeship in engineering or as an electrician."

Willow Crossley – Year 10 Student Skegness Grammar School

Willow joined multiple departments throughout her week - Product Development, QSHE, and Laboratory - to see how each operate on a day-to-day basis. She shared with us that the experience has supported her career ambitions, she really enjoyed spending the time in the Laboratory specifically due to her interest in science and would like to work within that industry in the future! Willow spoke to various teams and groups, taking in their expertise and experience from a range of different people! In doing so she learnt more about another career ambition potentially on the horizon, being a part of the police!

"I think with being in the Lab, it has influenced me a lot more and I do want to do it when I’m older. Speaking with Claire (Product Development Manager) has influenced as well as her husband works in the police and that it allowed me to discuss what I might like to do when I am older.”

Kirk Senior – Year 12 Student at Skegness Grammar School

Kirk joined the Process Engineering team where he learnt about mechatronics, AutoCAD, got involved in some of the projects in the department and even more! When we asked what he would move onto next in his career after the week, he shared with us the below:

"I would say that the Process Engineering team did a good job at showing different options in the engineering route. Lee Foley (Process Engineer) spoke very highly of Micronclean and the opportunities they offer. This made me feel there was an opportunity in the future for myself. He has also showed me other routes that may be available for learning by considering other options such as universities, apprenticeships, etc.”

Evie Simpson

Evie joined us in our Marketing department! She has written her own blog detailing her experience of the week (thank you for the break, Evie!), so we will let her take it away!

"This week, I did my work experience at Micronclean in the marketing department, I think it was an eye-opening experience to see what it’s like working in an office environment.

During my work experience, I have learnt how to analyse the websites and social media pages of companies, comparing content and making recommendations for what Micronclean can add to their website and social media pages to increase engagement. I have enjoyed researching Micronclean and its competitors, as it has given me an insight into the industry.

Thank you for letting me do my work experience at Micronclean and experience what it is really like to work within Marketing."

Kazeem Rana

Kazeem joined our HR department with an interest in corporate law. He was excited to see how a HR department runs, experience some inhouse training, and he also got to spend time with our Solicitor! He came prepared for it with an extensive list of questions, managing to use that time with the Solicitor to build an external connection which we hope will help him with his future ambitions! Kazeem had the below to say about the work he helped us with:

"I really liked the Absence and Return to Work training with Sarah Merton (HR Manager), we got to learn about different laws and learnt what you’re entitled to, policies, etc. I found it interesting that Micronclean has its own policies. Meeting the HR team was really really good. I liked the mini project I worked on for Anita Annis Booth (HR Officer)."

Finally, Micronclean would like to wish all our Work Experience students of 2025 the best of luck in their future careers. We hope that the time they have spent here was productive, insightful, and meaningful, and that our paths cross again in the future!
