Écoles d'été Micronclean : Tom

Chacun des étudiants sélectionnés s'est vu confier un projet en rapport avec les matières qu'il étudie et a non seulement aidé Micronclean, mais a également permis à l'étudiant de développer ses compétences et ses connaissances sur le lieu de travail.

Nous pensons que notre première université d'été a été un véritable succès et qu'elle a été bénéfique à la fois pour l'entreprise et pour les étudiants eux-mêmes. Toutefois, il est peut-être plus facile d'en juger par les propos des étudiants eux-mêmes.

My project involved extending the functionality of the Micronclean web-based Garment Portal which is used by over 250 customers to view live information about the garments Micronclean launder for them.

The extended functionality allowed user to see ancillary products and withdrawn garments. The first stage allowed me to gain the skills to develop a graphical dashboard for key information. The final part of my project has been to introduce advanced reporting functions.

Whilst developing these new features, I've been able to alpha and beta test them on a staging portal with key personnel to generate genuine end user feedback.  This feedback then gets incorporated into our software development update processes.
 
Everyone in the software development team at Micronclean works on their own projects, which has allowed me the freedom to work independently whilst being mentored and assisted by the rest of the team and Jason Humberstone the lead Software Engineer.

I intend to apply some of the techniques gained in the summer school in my A level IT project.
